Install Oracle database 10g on Windows XP (Requirements)

In general, this guide is applicable to all Oracle installations. In all of the OS, the installation process is the same, only slightly different in the pre-requisite its installation.

Download the Oracle database software first. It’s Free, free. Previously you must have an account at Oracle. If you do not have, making it easy, have an important email. Just follow the “sign up”. When prompted to enter the pin OPN, and you do not have pins OPN company because you are not a partner in its Oracle, empty it.

1. Open the page to download here

2. Select the version of the database and the type of your OS
In this case I choose the “Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows”

3. Then the following options appear
- Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0)
- Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0)
- Client Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0)
- Oracle Clusterware Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0)
- Gateways Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) (10.2.0.1.0)
Choose the first option. If only to learn a database, you simply choosing the first option only.

Computer that I use in this installation are:
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
- CPU: Intel 2 Ghz
- Memory: 1G
- Virtual (page) memory: 1.5 G

With these specifications, is very clear my PC (more than enough) to meet the requirements. More details about the specifications of the computer that can be installed, see the documentation (installation guide), which is in the software package has been downloaded. In general, the following specifications:

Hardware:
- Physical memory (RAM): 256 MB minimum, 512 MB recommended
- Virtual memory: RAM twice
- Disk space: approximately 5 G
- Video (monitor) adapter: 256 colors
- Processor: 550 MHz

Operating system (OS)
- Windows 2000 with Service Pack 1 or later. All Editions, including Terminal Services and Microsoft Windows 2000 multilanguage Edition (MLE)
- Windows Server 2003 - all Editions
- Windows XP Professional
- Windows NT is not supported.
